INDIVIDUAL THERAPY

In individual therapy, a client and a therapist meet one-on-one. This may involve talking, creating and/or utilizing art, music, or literature to facilitate healing and insight, and utilizing modalities like sand tray or specific trauma modalities. Individual therapy can occur virtual or in-person. In it's most common form, individual therapy occurs once a week for an hour.

Individual therapy with me is mostly talk therapy, with utilization of some activities such as sand tray, utilizing art, music, and literature to facilitate emotional regulation and/or insight, mindfulness and mediation practices, and body-oriented/somatic approaches. My sessions are just under one hour, and most of my clients meet with me weekly. An every-other-week schedule is fairly common in my practice as well. Occasionally, I meet with clients twice weekly or once a month.

GROUP THERAPY

In group therapy, two or more clients meet with a therapist, usually on a weekly basis. Group therapy session are most commonly an hour, but may run for 90 minutes to allow time for more through sharing among all participants.

I am hoping to run groups in the near future on the topic of navigating eating disorder recovery as a person in a larger body and/or for late diagnosed and self-diagnosed neurodivergent adults. If you are interested in either of these, please contact me!

ASSESSMENT SERVICES

Cairn Counseling, self-diagnosis is explored and supported. At times, however, formal diagnosis is necessary and warranted. Assessment requires specialized training, and I have some, but not all, training in this area. As I work towards obtaining this training, I am very happy to provide recommendations or direct referrals to clinicians I trust who are currently providing this service.
